Maria Katarina Pohl, a Swedish painter and psychologist with experience from Valand School of Fine Art in Gothenburg. She now lives and practise as a psychologist in a small village in Östergötland. Despite a history within the art school world she argues that she’s much more self-thought than you might think. And that her inspiration comes from reading philosophers and psychoanalysts rather than browsing pinterest boards all day long. Other sources of inspiration mentioned are poetry, Virginia Woolf and the color selection of Gauguin.
Maria's first work curated by Mästerverk is a powerful and beautiful painting of the iconic writer, philosopher and feminist Simone de Beauvoir. Stretching the world’s two longest arms in the air, shaping the letters V, for victory – times two. P-O-W-E-R, on a piece of paper. A modern classic if you’d like.
The edition of 20 was signed and numbered at the Mästerverk Gallery in early December 2016. She went on a train for 5 hours just to get there. We will always love her for that.
